Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a great place for a fun family vacation. There is lots to do, but the most important feature is the beach. Clean white sands and an excellent beach has made Myrtle a popular destination for years. You and family can have a great time enjoying the beach and the ocean.
There are plenty of great beaches along the east coast of the United States. What makes Myrtle a great place for families is that it is family oriented and there are plenty of activities to do when your family is not on the beach. We've reviewed some of these family activities below:
Family Kingdom Amusement Park
Family Kingdom amusement park is located on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. There are rides for everyone including thrill rides such as roller coasters, a log flume, and a high flying swing ride. The park also has plenty of family rides, a giant ferris wheel, and lots of kiddy rides for the little ones. If that isn't enough there is go kart racing with two different tracks to choose from.
Water Parks
Wild Water and Wheels offers a number of water attractions including speed slides, mat slides, tube slides, and a small kid's area. There also is a wave pool and a lazy river. When you get done with the water you can mini golf or race on one of their many race tracks. They also have race track for younger kids.
Myrtle Waves is another park that offers a variety of slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, and a special kid's zone. It is located just north of 501 on 17.
Family Kingdom also has an ocean side water park.
Theaters
Carolina Opry - Enjoy some southern humor and music at this fun show for families.
Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show - Have dinner and be entertained by horses, singing and comedy.
Palace Theatre - The Palace Theatre often has Broadway style shows. Check to see what's playing to see if it's something your family would enjoy.
Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament - See knights from medieval times in action while you eat dinner.
Broadway at the Beach
Broadway at the beach is a huge outdoor mall with lots of stores, restaurants and fun stuff to do. Just to name a few of the things your family will find to do: there is a movie theater, Ripley's Aquarium, NASCAR Speedpark, an IMAX theater, a kiddie ride area, and miniature golf.
Resorts
There are plenty of great resorts to stay at with the family at Myrtle Beach. You can get one a bit outside of the main area and get a less crowded beach. We prefer to stay right on the beach, but that can cost more. There are also resorts which include a water park or lazy river right at the hotel. This can be great for kids.
