Funny Books Are Number One with Kids on Ducksters
We recently ran a poll on Ducksters to find out what kind of books you like. The choices included Mystery, Fantasy, Funny, Action and Drama books. The winner, with 34% of the vote, was Funny Books! In second place was Mystery with 24% while Drama, Action, and Fantasy finished out the list with 16%, 14%, and 14% respectively.
The results were a bit surprising to us. Many fantasy books, like the Harry Potter Series and Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are extremely popular with kids. To see fantasy books come in last in our poll was quite surprising. There could be a lot of reasons for this. Maybe some kids like the Percy Jackson series more for the action than the fantasy part and they voted for the action books. Or maybe they like the mystery behind the Harry Potter series. Anyway, we don't know why you voted the way you did, but we do know that you like funny books a lot!
No doubt funny books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid have helped comedy books become popular. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series recently released the second movie in its series called Rodrick Rules. It was number one in the box office the first week it was released. Other popular funny books include the Hank Zipzer series, Frindle by Andrew Clements, and How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell.
We weren't at all surprised to see mystery books do well. Many popular kid's books and book series are mysteries even some old classics like the Hardy Boys and Encyclopedia Brown.
Maybe we should have added a category for scary and strange books. We know books such as A Series of Unfortunate Events and the new Secret Series books are pretty popular. Also, Roald Dhal has been popular for years with odd stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, George's Marvelous Medicine, and James and the Giant Peach.
Be sure to check out the latest Ducksters poll at the right of the page. This poll changes every month or so, however, we keep many of the polls running for much longer at our Kid's Polls page. Be sure to check that out as well and see if other people agree with you or not. Either way, it's good to have your own opinion, but it is interesting to see what other people think.
The poll was not scientific. It ran during the month of March 2011.
