Disney Playhouse will be renamed to Disney Junior
You may have heard that Disney Playhouse is going away, but don't worry, its really just getting renamed to Disney Junior. Starting in February of 2011 the shows for younger kids on Disney that were called Disney Playhouse will be Disney Junior. This may actually be good news for young kids and parents. The reason being that in 2012 Disney Junior will have its own channel. It won't just have a small block of time on Disney Channel anymore, but will have its very own channel on your cable TV network.
Disney Junior will still have a number of the shows you've come to know and love on Disney Playhouse like Imagination Movers, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Handy Manny. With the introduction in February, Disney Junior will also be adding some new shows. These new shows include Babar and the Adventures of Badou, Tinga Tinga Tales, and Jake and the Never Land Pirates. With more new shows in the works, 2011 could be a fun year. They will also show Disney classic movies like The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story.
To those of you who liked Dora the Explorer, Jake and the Never Land Pirates was made for you. It's an animated series that follows Jake and a team of kid pirates through various adventures on Never Land. Captain Hook and Smee will also be involved. The show will be interactive like Dora and should be fun for young kids.
Disney promises that Disney Junior will still have the excellent storytelling and magic that we've come to expect. They also said they will continue to emphasize learning skills such as math, how to eat healthy, and basic language skills. We look forward to the additional programming and to the dedicated channel.
