One of the great things about movies is their ability to transport us to somewhere completely different. Fantasy movies can take us to places that only exist in the imaginations of the writer or the director. Some fantasy movies like How to Train Your Dragon or Despicable Me are one hundred percent animated, but other use special effect and computer animation combined with real actors and places to create imaginary worlds.

A lot of great fantasy movies are based on books. Examples of this include the Harry Potter series of movies and books, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We think the best fantasy movies stay true to the story of the book and take our imaginations to new heights.

This list of fantasy movies for kids is by no means completely comprehensive, but we think it's a good list of some of the best PG and G rated fantasy movies ever made.
